We Were Inspired

Dorothy Ann Watts (Dot) graduated South Side High School in Newark NJ in 1968. Originally from Tennille Georgia, her mom uprooted her and her sister following her older sisters and brothers to NJ. She married Ayres B Gray (Chuck) in 1975 and together they raised 4 children Velvelette (Princess), Ayres, Sheree, and Doni Gray. In the late 80s early 90s they were foster parents of 3 little girls and two of them eventually were placed back with their family's care. The third girl, they adopted in 1995 making Toshia Morgan, Toshia Gray (Tosh). That is just one of many stories of Dot taking care of people she did not birth. From cousins, to family friends, she lodged, fed, and clothed everyone. Dot fed the community when she had small children to raise herself even when she had difficult financial circumstances herself. But, her and Chuck always got it done! She loved on people like they were her own. Making a big impact in Newark, Keansburg, and Long Branch communities in NJ where she spread love and care to everyone she came across, young and old. After passing in 2013, she is severely missed. Leaving behind children, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren and many more who all strive to share even half the love she once did. Because of such an impact and the love for her mother, Tosh has made 2 businesses in her memory to pay homage to a wonderful person full of love and light! Dot's daughter Princess has also dedicated her catering business "Dots Kitchen" to their mother in her honor. The logo is Dots high school graduation picture because education is the foundation for a bright future. Not just school, but the education of fundamentals that assist everyday life to be better! Dot was a giver, a lover, and kind soul whose smile alone would change your day for the better! She took pride in her community and helped everyone is it, so it is important The Gray Foundation does just that! We hope we make her proud.
